EV1

The General Motors EV1 was an electric car produced and leased by General Motors from 1996 to 1999. As it was to be expected, the battery technology wasn`t up to par in those days to compete with piston-driven cars and as the production expenses were soaring, the project was buried. In November 2003, GM began reclaiming the cars and aside from some 40, which were donated to museums, the cars were destroyed as it was a cheaper solution than supporting them. The electric cars have come a long way since then, but for the time, EV1 was too expensive, had too little range and couldn`t haul much of anything.
